Juvederm Q & A

What does Juvéderm do?

Juvéderm, as well as Restylane, is a collection of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a substance your body naturally produces. Part of hyaluronic acid’s job is to retain moisture and hydrate your skin while helping with nutrient delivery to skin cells.

The hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm and Restylane is synthetic, but it works in the same manner. These injectables contain hyaluronic acid and other volumizing components in a gel-like substance for added plumpness and fast results.

Juvéderm and Restylane can:

  • Plump your lips
  • Fill in deep grooves and wrinkles
  • Contour your cheeks and jawline

Sometimes, these dermal filler injectables are paired with skin-smoothing Botox® injections, which further helps minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Are Juvéderm injections painful?

The needles used for both Juvéderm and Restylane are very thin. While you’re probably going to feel a prick from the needle, you shouldn’t feel any severe pain. Some lines of dermal fillers even have built-in lidocaine for quick numbing.

In any case, though, Dr. González doesn’t want you to focus on discomfort. She can offer a topical numbing solution that you can apply before your scheduled filler service.

When can I expect results with Juvéderm?

Juvéderm, in addition to Restylane, provides almost immediate results. You might notice a little swelling or redness right after your injections from Amber Medical Spa. But these minor side effects tend to resolve within a few days and you should experience the results you want within about a week.

How long does Juvéderm last?

Both Juvéderm and Restylane are entirely long-lasting. Depending on your level of volume loss and which area you’re having treated, you can typically expect your optimal results to last anywhere from 12-24 months.

Because Juvéderm and Restylane have been heavily tested in clinical trials and are FDA-approved, you can feel confident that you’re getting a safe treatment. Once you start noticing that your Juvéderm or Restylane injections are wearing off, you’re welcome to come back to Amber Medical Spa for retreatment.
